Sumatra Organic Benner Meriah is sourced from family-owned farms organized around the KSU Gayo Mandiri cooperative in the Bener Meriah regency, Aceh district, on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. On average, producers cultivate coffee on 2.5 acres of land using their own micro-mills to depulp and dry coffee. KSU Gayo Mandiri collaborates with a family owned export company called CV. Gayo Mandiri Coffee, which operates its own dry-mill and provides logistics to transport and export coffee aimed at ensuring greater earnings for producers. The cooperative is investing in roads to help producers overcome problems transporting their coffee. The cooperative also recently purchased an ambulance to improve access to emergency healthcare.
